FAQs
Frequently asked questions about MDExpert

How much does it cost?

An opinion from MDExpert costs $2800, our introductory price, payable by any major credit card. Many insurers cover second opinions, and though we do not contact them directly for you, you should check with your plan to see if they will reimburse you. If the pathology has not already been reviewed by at least two sources, we recommend that a pathology review be done as well. Pathology review costs between $2800 to $3200

How long does it take to get my opinion back?

Often, the longest part of the process is obtaining your records from your physician. This can take anywhere from 1 to 14 days. Once the records reach our offices the turnaround time for your opinion is 5 business days.

Once I sign the form is there anything else I have to do?

No, the release form is the only step you need to complete. Once you sign the release form, we contact your doctor's office directly and process the opinion from start to finish.

Do I have to come to your office to get a second opinion?

No. The only thing we need to begin the process of getting an opinion for you is a completed and signed release form. You can download the release form from our website www.MDExpert.com or you can email us and we can fax or mail a release form to you directly.

Who are the experts?

The experts who consult for us are medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons from the leading academic institutions and cancer centers in the country. You can see a list of our Medical Board of Advisors and our panel of experts on our website at www.MDExpert.com.

What qualifies them as experts?

The physicians that consult for us fulfill at least three if not all of the following criteria:
   1. An academic appointment at a United States medical school
   2. Significant clinical publications in peer reviewed oncology journals
   3. A national or international reputation as a clinical expert
   4. Membership on the editorial board of a cancer journal
   5. Investigator on a national cooperative group trial

Who will review my case?

The MDExpert consultants are organized in our computer system by specialty. When we receive your case, our medical staff selects the most appropriate, available physician for your case.

Will I get to see or talk to the expert?

No. The MDExpert opinion is a remote opinion that gets processed through your oncologist. Though there is no direct contact between the patient and the consultant rendering the opinion, you are encouraged to submit any specific questions that you would like the consulting physician to consider.

Is this service available to doctors and patients outside of the United States?

Yes. We welcome patients from around the world. Please contact us to arrange for overseas records transfer.
